Hello D.H. White Community,

In February, our students will be working hard to show "Responsibility."  Our character education assembly will be on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 1:40 (TK-2nd) and 2:15 (3rd-5th).  I hope you can join us.  Part of being responsible is knowing our school rules.  Take the time to ask your child to tell you about the school rules.  Our peacemakers are working hard each day on the playground to ensure that students are playing and interacting in a responsible way.

This month, we are also participating in "Jump Rope for the Heart." Look for your student to bring home information about this, and please do what you can to support this great cause.  If you have any questions about this fundraiser, stop by the office and we can point you in the right direction.

We've noticed an increased amount of "little siblings" on the playground in the morning.  Parents, please make sure that if they are here for drop-off in the morning that you are watching them at all times. Our teachers are monitoring student safety during this recess, and cannot be responsible for watching additional children.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation on this.

Thank you for all your support!

-Mr. Casey

Happy December D.H. White Community,

This is always such a fun AND busy time of year for us here at school.  We have many exciting events planned that we hope you will join us for.

Our annual "Breakfast with Santa" will take place on Saturday 12/2, beginning at 8a.m.  This is a great activity to bring the whole family to.

We will be having our two holiday musical performances this month.  Our 3rd-5th graders will perform on 12/12 at 6pm and our TK-2nd graders will perform on 12/14 at 6pm.  Both performances will take place in the Tapella building.

Join me for "Coffee with the Principal" on Thursday December 7th at 8:30a.m.

Our lifeskill for the month of December is "Integrity." Students who demonstrate this skill will be honored at our January character education assembly.

The final day of the quarter will be December 15th.  Report cards will not be mailed home until after our Winter Break.

Our break will begin on December 18th and we will return to school on January 8th.  Please remember to have your child read each day of break.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday break and make special memories.  Enjoy the season and we will see you back here in 2018!

Happy Holidays,

Hello D.H. White Community,

November 3rd at 2:00pm will be our Quarter One Honor Roll assembly.  We will be honoring those students who met the requirements for honor roll and celebrating their academic achievements.  We will also be recognizing those students who showed great "empathy" during the month of October.  Our new life skill for November is "Honesty."

We have no school November 10th for Veteran's day, as well as no school 11/20-11/24 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Please continue to ensure that your student is at school and on-time everyday.  We are having monthly classroom attendance contests.  The class who wins will receive a party each month.

As you drop off in the loop every morning and pick-up in the afternoon, please make sure you are following the loop rules.  You should pull all the way forward, and please do not get out of your car.  The idea is that we have a "rolling loop" for loading and unloading.  If you need to get out of the car with your child, please park in an appropriate parking space.  This ensures not only student safety, but the efficiency of the loop as well.

Thank you for all you do and for being a part of our school family.  We are "thankful" for you.

-Mr. Casey

-All 4's in every area on the report card.

-All Satisfactory or above on character skills.

-No more than 7 absences per quarter.

These requirements will remain the same for the Quarter's 2, 3, and 4 as well.

Our annual Halloween Parade will take place on 10/31 at 8:30a.m.  Kindergarten will lead our parade route.  Remember, all student costumes must be appropriate and there are no weapons, blood/gore, etc. allowed.  If student costumes are not appropriate, they will not be allowed in the parade and we'll be calling home for a change of clothes.  We hope you can join us to watch the parade on Tuesday.  Thanks!

Happy October D.H. White Community,

The end of our first quarter is near and this is shaping up to be a busy month at our school.

Parent-Teacher conferences will take place 10/10-10/13.  Please make every effort to attend your child's conference.  This is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to form a relationship as well as discuss your child's strengths and set goals for the rest of the school year.

Our Peacemaker program began this month and it already seems to be going great!  The peacemaker's are currently at all 3rd-5th grade recesses, with plans to roll the program out to the younger grades next month.  We had 30 students trained to be peacemakers and learn how to help our students solve playground problems.

Our character education life skill for October is "Empathy."  We will be introducing this at our assembly on Thursday 10/5 (TK-2: 1:40-2:10/3-5: 2:15-2:45).  We will also be honoring those students who showed "Respect" during September.

Our annual Halloween Parade, will take place on 10/31 at 8:30a.m. this year.  Students will be allowed to wear their costumes to school on that day, however, costumes must be school appropriate.  No blood/gore/weapons will be permitted. All dress code rules, must be followed as well. If a student is deemed to wear something inappropriate that day, they will not be allowed to participate in the parade and we will be calling home

Red Ribbon Week will take place from 10/23-10/31.  Students will be participating in activities in and out of class each day.  We will work hard at teaching our students to always make healthy choices!

Thank you for doing your part to help to make our school the great place it is!

As September begins, our students have all settled in and are learning more about their new teachers and classmates.  It has been very exciting for me to walk into all the classrooms frequently and see the learning that is taking place.

Just as routines in the classroom are important, so are routines at home.  Work with your child to establish a "quiet time" each day where they can work on their homework, or you can work with them to reinforce concepts taught in class.  Keep in mind, childhood is a special time of learning, exploration and growth.  Children need to be provided free time to explore their world and experience the joy of discovery.

This month our lifeskill we are working on is: RESPECT.  Students will be learning and demonstrating respect throughout the month and beyond.

I wanted to personally thank the many of you of who have donated school supplies to start the year.  I know the teacher's truly appreciate it.  Don't forget to continue to check in with your child's teacher throughout the year to donate, if you are able to.

Our first "Coffee with the Principal" will take place on Thursday, September 7th at 8:30.  I hope you'll join me.  I always enjoy hearing from the school community.

Thank you,

Mr. Casey

Hello D.H. White Families,

The month of May is upon us, and our final month of school is shaping up to be a busy one!

We begin our state testing May 1st.  Please make sure students are eating healthy breakfasts each morning and going to bed early each night.  Please work hard on making sure your child attends school each day of testing.

As the weather heats up, we are noticing more dress code violations, especially with shoes.  Remember, open-toed shoes/sandals are not allowed at school.

Teacher appreciation week is May 1st-5th.  I know I am extremely grateful for the hard work our teachers put in day in and day out.  Take a moment this week to let them know how appreciated they are.

Our final life skill for the school year will be: Optimism.  What a great trait to end the school year on!

We have partnered with the Rio Vista Library to bring a mobile library to D.H. White.  Students have been so excited to check out books.  I’m looking forward to this program continuing and evolving next year.

If you’re interested in joining the board of our PTC, please let the front office know.  This is a great opportunity to get involved next year, and I look forward to working with you.

We will be having our End-of-the-Year carnival on June 2nd from 10-12.  Remember, the first hour of the carnival is only for those students who meet their AR goals.  A hot dog lunch will be provided for all students that day.  5th grade promotion will also take place on 6/2 at 9:00 a.m.

Happy May!

Mr. Casey

Please make sure:

-Students eat a healthy breakfast each day.

-Get a good night's sleep before testing.

-Attendance is crucial during this testing period.  Please ensure your student is at school each day and on time.

-Any appointments during this time period should be made after school, or after lunch if absolutely necessary.

Hi, Families!

The last coin has been counted, and the results are in! Because we worked together, Our Pennies for Patients campaign was a big success. We raised $1,421.29 toward helping the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society meet its goal of eliminating blood cancers forever. Thank you so much for helping and encouraging your child to participate in Pennies for Patients. There’s only one more thing we’d like to ask you to do:

  • Tell your child how proud you are of him or her for making a difference for the thousands of children and adults battling blood cancers!

Thank you to Everyone who participated!
